Maggie Beazer

Stansbury High School
Stansbury Park, Utah

Her personal ambition works in cross county. It works in calculus, too.

Maggie Beazer was not a born runner. In fact, when she first tried eross eountry, she didn’t even like it. But then she ran her first race as a freshman. And she realized if she just made the effort, she could fly, passing up even the older and more experienced runners in the race. That first taste of victory sparked in Maggie a personal ambitiousness that continually drives her to exceed all expectations—even her own.

As an all-state cross country and track and field runner, Maggie has set multiple school records, and she played an integral role in helping the varsity cross country team win the state championship, a major accomplishment for her team and school. If she ever finds herself behind, with the runner in front of her seemingly too distant to catch, Maggie imagines the medal being placed around her neck. Seeing herself winning helps her dig deeper and draw on all her reserves to succeed.

That same ambition works for Maggie academically and socially, too. She’s used it to muscle through particularly challenging calculus problem sets as well as to ultimately achieve a perfect score of 36 on her ACT. And she summoned her drive to overcome innate shyness and find the confidence to successfully speak in front of 300 girls at The American Legion Auxiliary Utah Girl’s State program last summer. Whether it’s running, studying, or leading, Maggie lives by the belief that whoever has the discipline to put in the hard work, has what it takes to achieve even their loftiest goals.

“Running is all about discipline. Sometimes you just have to tuck your head and keep driving forward.”
