BENEATH HER DETERMINATION AND HARD WORK IS A HEART FOR OTHERS.

Sarah Andrews has a lot of grit. On the soccer field, she’s played through a broken nose and a broken femur to help her team get the win. Her relentless drive makes her a leader on her team, but beneath that determination and toughness, there’s a very big heart. Sarah cares deeply about her teammates, peers and community, and just like on the soccer field, she makes sacrifices and puts in the hard work to prove it.

As the captain of her soccer team, Sarah made it her goal to instill a culture of inclusion for all team members. Under her leadership, upperclassmen paired with JV squad members to mentor them and ensure everyone felt like part of the school’s soccer program, as opposed to members of an individual team. Sarah’s passion for mentoring extends off the field. Senior year, she chose to forgo additional AP courses and fun electives so she could participate as a peer partner and mentor for special needs students. In this role, Sarah helps teach music and Spanish and works to enrich the high school experience for her peer partners.

Sarah has earned the President’s Volunteer Service Award for her community service activities. To further support those in need, she uses her birthday parties as fundraising events to support the Domestic Violence Center, raising more than $1,000 last year. Whether it’s supporting her teammates, her peers or her community, Sarah puts her whole heart into everything she does. She leads by example, clearly demonstrating that it’s not always the greatest skill that gets the win, but often who has the greatest determination and drive.
