Making Every Point Count

Myracle Lettries has always had a strong desire to be who and what she wants to be, even if that is different from most of her peers. She grew up in a family that was very supportive, but did not have a lot of resources, requiring Myracle to gain independence at a young age. Then, when she was just 11, she witnessed two of her uncles pass away tragically. The devastating events were life-changing for Myracle. She matured very quickly, stepping up to support her mom during the difficult time. She realized she would need to work even harder to achieve the future she envisioned for herself.

To that end, Myracle has never let stereotypes stand in the way of her success. Being bullied by others and being told that “black people don’t speak Spanish” didn’t stop her from placing first at the Aldine District Spanish convention in 2016. That win inspired Myracle to begin teaching Spanish to younger children in her church and to become an advocate for women’s issues and help all females realize their potential.

Myracle sets the example on the court and field and in her communities. She serves as captain of her school’s volleyball and track & field teams, and between the two sports, she has set a total of seven school and 12 district records. She plans to play both sports at a Division I school in the fall. She serves on student council and helps lead several student organizations designed to help all students set goals and pursue their dreams. She’s active in community events and stepped up to support the Hurricane Harvey clean up. While Myracle has had to deal with adversity in life, she is always eager to help others who want to rise above their circumstance and set higher expectations for themselves. “The joy you have knowing that you’re changing lives” inspires her to continue giving her all.
