Jordan Rudd

Veterans Memorial High School
Brownsville, TX

Work ethic, discipline, and the right mindset make this athlete’s dreams a reality.

Growing up in a small town where sports opportunities are limited, especially for girls, hasn’t stopped Jordan Rudd from becoming an accomplished basketball player. Jordan’s dad, a high school basketball coach, recognized her talent early on. His players noticed her skill, too, dubbing her a prodigy. By the time she got to high school, she’d already made a name for herself in the community. But then came her sophomore year, and Jordan found herself in a slump both athletically and academically. Instead of letting the situation get the best of her, Jordan dedicated herself to more workouts and more study. By putting her mind to it, she got back in her groove and improved her performance all around.

While she’s clearly a talented individual, she’s also a committed team player. She’s the first to lend a hand to help her opponents get up when they fall down on the court. And she’s an inspiration for other youth in her community interested in pursuing sports. Her character has won her the admiration of her teammates, her coaches, her competitors, and her community.

Jordan maintains a ruthless work ethic, one influenced by her hard-working parents, in order to realize her athletic and academic successes. She often chooses to skip time with friends or watching Netflix in order to train or study. But she’s always willing to make time for those in need, especially her family. When her parents divorced four years ago, it was Jordan who helped her younger sister through the transition, finding time to talk with her every night and sort through her feelings. While Jordan takes pride in her many accomplishments, she views helping her youngest sister as her greatest success to date.
