Sharing His Success

It takes a true champion to appreciate everything a win can do.

Owen Treece maintains a near perfect GPA while captaining three different varsity sports teams. His personal record is impressive. But his real drive to succeed comes from a desire to win for his teammates, his school, and his community as a whole. As a sophomore, he helped his baseball team bring home a league championship for the first time in 35 years while winning its way to the state tournament for the first time in school history. While it was an incredible victory for every member of the roster, the success was much farther-reaching than that, having a profound impact on many community members who became very involved with supporting and even traveling with the team on its journey.” As a sophomore in high school, to experience how much a team could affect a community is something I will never forget,” says Owen.

A born leader, Owen’s ability to influence others in the classroom, in the community, and on the field is something he takes to heart. He prefers to lead by example, demonstrating that everyone has a contribution to make, no matter their role on a team. Owen was slated as backup quarterback his first two years on the football squad, as an older player held the starting role. He found ways to make a difference in the game by honing other skills. “As a freshman, I worked hard to make the special teams. And then, as a sophomore, I learned how to play slot receiver and was able to start on the offense in a new aspect of the game for me,” he says. When he did become starting quarterback as a junior, he didn’t disappoint. He has the distinction of being named Offensive Player of the Game for every game played his senior year.

Owen is always encouraging other players to work hard and be adaptable. And that mantra applies both on and off the field. Whether it’s in the classroom or in practice, Owen focuses on the fundamentals, working hard to perfect each skill or comprehend each nuance of the lesson. That drive, he says, first developed at a young age, thanks to his parents’ example and encouragement. “But now, being old enough to realize what I want in life, I push myself harder and hold myself accountable to eventually reach the goals I have set.”
