Nolan Henry

Union High School
Camas, Washington

Serving others is more than a family tradition for this athlete. It's a way of life.

DRIVEN BY A DESIRE TO HELP OTHERS, HE TAKES STEPS TO GIVE BACK IN HIS COMMUNITY AND OUTSIDE THE COUNTRY.

Generations ago, Nolan Henry’s family risked everything so that one day he could have the opportunity for a better life. At just 14 years old, Nolan’s grandmother came to America on her own to escape the Cuban Revolution as part of “Operation Pedro Pan,” the largest recorded exodus of unaccompanied minors in the Western Hemisphere. When Nolan’s grandmother was reunited with her family years later, the family pledged to work hard and serve the community as a way of repaying the debt owed to their new country for restoring their freedom. This responsibility and commitment is one Nolan continues to uphold every day.

Nolan is the quarterback of his football team, serves as a mentor to younger athletes and founded the Union Scholar Athlete Club, which promotes academic achievement, school spirit and mentorship to all students. Additionally, he leads a number of service activities in his community and abroad. His Titans Youth Foundation food drive was designed to “Tackle Hunger,” and is the second largest one-day food drive in the region. Nolan is also the leader of a school club called Kwapa, which provides aid to widows and orphans in Kamara Town, Liberia. He personally raised $26,000 for this cause during football season his junior year and during winter break that year, led a group of 14 students to Liberia to build a community sports court and a sustainable poultry and pig farm in the community.

Nolan is driven by his family’s past. He believes he has a responsibility to live a life filled with purpose and service to others. This is what keeps him giving back in every way he can.
