Will Moten

He learns from life’s setbacks, and leverages them to achieve even greater success.

When Will Moten takes time out of his busy study and practice schedule to volunteer to feed the homeless, he’s not just doing it to fulfill a service credit. He’s helping people with whom he can truly empathize. A few years ago, Will and his family lost their home for a period of time. But while his family worked to get back on track, Will stayed focused on making it to school on time, keeping up with his grades, and training for his sports. Despite his family situation, Will maintained his GPA and led his track and field team to a state championship title.

It’s always been Will’s way to take a difficult situation and use it as a learning experience. Instead of dreading the obstacles that stand in his way, he welcomes them, using them as an opportunity to push himself to the next level. It’s this frame of mind that has led Will to set 10 state records in track and field and to win three state titles in a row, while simultaneously earning MVP status in football, cross country, and basketball. He aspires to use his successes as a platform to influence others, leading by example and demonstrating that often times, you must fail before you can succeed.

While he is proud of the many athletic and academic accolades he has collected, Will is motivated by the opportunity to bring people together. When he crosses a finish line in first place, seeing his family, his teammates, his school, and his community rallying together to share in his victory is what he considers the greatest prize of all.
